Sam the Snowman Oreo Balls

Inspired by the iconic Rankin/Bass movies!

Difficulty: Easy (w/out faces), Advanced (w/ faces) | Time: 1 hr (w/out the faces) 45min (w/ faces) | Yields: 16 Oreo balls

Sam the Snowman is one of the most iconic Rankin/Bass characters and one of the most iconic Christmas movies characters (in my opinion)! These turned out super cute! With some time and a little patience, you can make these spectacular Sam the Snowman Oreo balls, too!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package Oreo

  • 1 8oz block cream cheese

  • Melting chocolate, white *(1)

  • (optional) Black edible marker

  • (optional) Mini Oreos

Directions:

Make the Oreo balls:

  1. In a blender or food processor, blend the whole package of Oreos into a fine crumb.

  2. Pour the crumbs into a medium-large bowl and add in the block of cream cheese. Mix together until evenly combined. You might have to use your hands to knead the ingredients together.

  3. Using a 1Tbsp cookie scoop, scoop the Oreo mixture and roll into a ball. Continue doing this until all of the Oreo mixture has been rolled into balls.

  4. Chill the balls for 15 minutes in the freezer.

Coat the Oreo balls in chocolate:

  1. While the Oreo balls are chilling in the freezer, melt your white chocolate according to the package instructions. I melted mine over a bain-marie.

  2. Pour some of the white chocolate into a small, deep cup.

  3. Remove the Oreo balls from the freezer and stick a wooden screwer in the bottom of one. Dunk the Oreo ball into the cup of white chocolate and remove, shaking the Oreo ball gently to remove any excess chocolate. Using a fork, scoop the Oreo ball off the skewer and set on a sheet of parchment paper. Continue until all of the Oreo balls have been coated.

  4. Allow the chocolate to set.

Decorate the Oreo balls (optional):

  1. Using an edible marker, draw two small lines for Sam’s eye, and then a small semi circle for the mouth (flat side of the semi circle closest to the eyes).

  2. Put some of the white chocolate in a piping bag with a small, round piping tip.

  3. Make the mustache: Pipe two dots on the flat side of the semi circle smile. Using the pointy end of a skewer, drag one of the chocolate dots away from the center of the face into a curve to look like 1 half of the handle bar mustache. Do the same thing, but the opposite direction, for the other dot.

  4. Make the beard: Pipe another dot of chocolate at the bottom, rounded edge of the semi circle. Connect the dot up to each side of the mustache to look like the edges of the mouth, then drag the dot down to look like a beard.

  5. Make the eyebrows: Pipe two dots a few millimeters above each eye. Drag each dot away from the center to curve down toward the edge of each eye.

  6. Make the nose: Pipe one last dot in the center of the mustache to create a nose.

  7. Take a mini Oreo and stick it on the top with some more white chocolate to make the “hat”.

  8. Keep the Oreo balls refrigerated. Enjoy!

Notes:

  1. *If you don’t plan to make your Oreo balls look like snowmen, you can using milk or dark melting chocolate instead!
