Apple Cider Cronuts

What are cronuts? They’re the delectable hybrid of donut and croissant. Usually, they’re difficult to make because they involve the meticulous process of laminating dough… aka loads of rolling out dough, and folding it with butter to create those flaky layers.
What if I told you that you can skip all that croissant dough madness?! Yup. You can achieve impressive levels of cronut mastery with none other than Pillsbury Grands… Fry that up and BOOM. You’ve got a cronut.
And don’t forget to fall-ify these bad boys with a cinnamon sugar coating and an apple cider glaze!
Ingredients:
For the cronuts:

1 tube of Pillsbury Grands, butter flavor

oil, for frying

1 cup sugar

2 tsp cinnamon
For the glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar
-
1/3 cup apple cider (*1)

2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:

Remove the grands from the casing and lay them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Using a large piping tip, cut holes out of the center of each grand. (*2)

Heat about 2” of oil to 375 degrees F in a frying pan. Drop each grand into the oil and let fry on one side for 2-3min, then flip and fry the other side for another 1-2 minutes. The cronuts should be a deep golden color.

Remove the cronuts and set them on a paper-towel lined plate.

In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar. Coat the cronuts in the cinnamon sugar. It’s best to do this as soon as they come out of the oil so the cinnamon sugar sticks to donut better. You might need to use tongs if the donuts are still too hot.

Make the glaze: In another bowl, combine the powdered sugar, apple cider, cinnamon and vanilla together and whisk until smooth. (*3)

Dip the tops of each cronut into the glaze and let any excess glaze drip off for a second or two. Set the cronuts on a wire cooling rack and let the glaze completely dry. Enjoy!
Notes:

*If you can’t find apple cider, just use apple juice.

*If you don’t have a large piping tip, you could use a shot glass, or simply leave the centers there.

*If you want your glaze to be thicker, add more powdered sugar. If you want it to be thinner, add more apple cider.
