Maple Glazed Caramel Apple Cronuts

All your fav fall flavors packed into one cronut

Difficulty: Easy | Time: 45min | Yields: 8 cronuts

Imagine apple pie filling, mixed with a cinnamon sugar donut, mixed with a croissant, mixed with salted caramel…. And you’ll be imagining THIS. This magical, fall-flavored concoction is guaranteed to please the masses. I know this first hand: I brought these into my acting class and everyone raved about them!

These impressive looking specimens of a dessert don’t actually require any impressive baking skills. A roll of Pillsbury grands will get you the cronut and Ghirardelli will provide you the caramel… The only work left to do is make some cinnamon apples! It’s a doable and delicious recipe!

Ingredients:

For the cinnamon apples:

  • 10oz apples, diced (about 3 small granny smith apples)

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tbsp flour

For the cinnamon sugar cronuts:

For the maple glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 3 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp milk

For the salted caramel drizzle:

  • Ghirardelli salted caramel

Directions:

Prepare the cinnamon apples:

  1. In a medium sauce pan on medium heat, add your diced apples, sugar and cinnamon. Toss to evenly coat.

  2. Add in the flour and mix to evenly coat.

  3. Place the lid on the sauce pan and let the apples cook for about 10-15 min.

  4. Remove the lid and give another mix. The apples should be soft and the cinnamon sugar mixture should be thick. If some it is sticking to the pan, add a tablespoon or two of water to make it less sticky.

  5. Turn off the heat and pour the cinnamon apples into a bowl to cool down. Set aside.

Make the cinnamon sugar cronuts:

  1. Follow the instructions here.

Make the maple glaze:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup and milk. The glaze should have a ribbon-like consistency.

Assemble the cronuts:

  1. Dip the tops of each cronut into the glaze and allow any excess glaze to drip off. Allow the glaze to dry.

  2. Add a spoonful of cinnamon apples to the center of the donut.

  3. Drizzle with salted caramel. Best enjoyed fresh!
